Here's a list of 2021 Veterans Day events for communities in central Wisconsin



Veterans Day is fast approaching. Across Wisconsin, communities are holding ceremonies and events to honor and thank veterans for their service.

While some annual events have changed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many area organizations have found ways to hold on to many of their traditions.

Neillsville


The Highground Veterans Memorial Park, W7031 Ridge Road, will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony starting at 3 p.m. Nov. 11. The guest speaker for this year's ceremony is Kari C. Porter, a licensed professional counselor and director of the La Crosse Vet Center. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 715-743-4224 or visit thehighground.us.


Plover


At 11 a.m. Nov. 11, the Plover VFW Post 10262 will hold a rifle ceremony at the Plover Veterans Memorial, 2725 Roosevelt Drive. At noon, the American Legion Auxiliary will host a potluck at the Plover VFW, 2970 Hickory Drive. Later, from 4 to 8 p.m., the post's restaurant, Jake's Kitchen, will offer a 20% discount on its menu prices.


Rome


From 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 11, Visit Rome, WI will host its annual observance of Veterans Day at the Spring Branch Cemetery with a full honor guard. At 12:15 p.m. after the ceremony, a takeout-only dinner will be offered at Rome Town Hall, 1156 Alpine Drive, Nekoosa. House-bound veterans in the Town of Rome may request home delivery. Stevens Point


District 1 Brewing Company, 200 N. Division St., will host a Veterans Day party from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 11. The event is free and features food from Purple Basil until 9 p.m., music, a basket raffle and beer specials. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Wisconsin Rapids and Plover VFW posts. At the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a Veterans Day ceremony will be held in the Dreyfus University Center Alumni Room from 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 11. The event will feature the university's ROTC color guard, a performance of the national anthem, and several speakers delivering remarks. Wausau


In honor of Veterans Day, The Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin will host a blood drive from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at VFW Burns Post 388, 212 E. Randolph St. New donors and walk-in appointments are welcome. To schedule your donation appointment, call the Blood Center at 715-842-0761.

From 12:30 to 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 4, 11 and 18, Marathon County Public Library and the Marathon County Historical Society will co-host three "History Chats," short talks about local historical figures. Each week in November, in honor of Veterans Day, the Historical Society will tell the stories of three local veterans. The History Chats will be available via Zoom and the Historical Society's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Wisconsin Rapids


At 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park, 112 Second Ave. S., a remembrance ceremony is planned to commemorate Veterans Day.

From 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 11, the VFW Post 2534 will host a Veterans Day Spaghetti Dinner at the Don Knuth Memorial Hall, 2711 Reddin Road. For $8 per ticket, the VFW will provide an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner with rolls, salad and dessert. Milk and coffee are also included, but if you care to have something stronger, a cash bar with soda, beer, wine and mixed drinks will also be available.
